A one-night introduction to the lapidary arts and what the Duluth Makerspace has to offer local rock and mineral enthusiasts. Presentation of the saws, drill, lapidary polishers, and cabbing machines. Hands-on learning on the saw and cabbing arbor. Learn more about becoming certified Lapidary Studio Certified; this class is the first step.

***Lapidary 101 is prerequisite for this class *** In this course, students will review what they learned in Lapidary 101 and continue the process by polishing the face of a stone to highlight its natural beauty. Fee includes materials (use of studio sanding belts, 1 rock to polish, additional materials available for purchase). If you have a rock you want to polish, you may bring it. Completion of this course certifies the student to utilize the studio unsupervised by a studio manager. Class format: 9-12 instructions and project work, 12-1 break, 1-4 complete projects.

Fixit Clinics are events where volunteers with repair skills give free, guided assistance to help you troubleshoot and fix your broken household items. Volunteers specialize in a variety of repair skills, including electronics and small appliances, woodworking and furniture, watches and jewelry, clothing and upholstery, sports and outdoor gear, ceramics, artwork, and more!

Sign up in advance to be paired with a skilled volunteer. Fill out a registration form (https://wlssd.com/fix-it/fix-it-clinic-registration-form/) or call 218-722-3336 to reserve a time slot and make sure our volunteers are prepared with the right tools and materials to help! Walk-ins welcome but not guaranteed a time slot.

There’s no guarantee your item can be fixed. If it can’t be repaired during the event or requires specialty parts, we’ll help connect you to local professionals or other resources to get your item back in working order.

Engrave your own Lake Superior stone keepsake! Learn the basics of the 100W laser: operation and safety, set up, and settings in Lightburn. Discover how to experiment with different designs on various stones.

Beginners are welcome. All materials are provided, and you will walk away with a laser engraved rock of your own.
